Is shingles contagious?
Shingles is an inflammation of a nerve which causes pain, itching, a rash, or all three. Many people wonder, “Is shingles contagious?” Any person who has had chickenpox in childhood is at the highest risk of developing Shingles disease. Shingles is sometimes called herpes zoster. Those who have had chicken pox and are exposed later in life to someone carrying chickenpox are vulnerable. Also, to play safe and not risk passing on the virus to others who may not have had chickenpox, you should not share towels, go swimming, or play contact sports such as rugby whilst you have a shingles rash.
